IT Audit Intern
April - September 2018 • Cheektowaga, NY
What I liked
I really enjoyed working for a multinational corporation as large as Sodexo. This internship gave me firsthand experience working with auditing different applications that Sodexo uses. I learned about access control and risk management as well and how they both apply to ensuring the safety of an organizations assets. With all of the different spreadsheets and information that I had to deal with every day I learned how to make sure I am paying attention to every little aspect of the work I was doing - one wrong excel formula or an overlooked account in a system and a great risk could be posed to the organization. Finally, I really liked how the work I did really mattered, never did it feel like "busy work" or something to just keep me busy. My reports and findings were used and presented to external auditors that worked with Sodexo.
What I wish was different
This internship takes place during the summer, aka busy season for IT Audit, therefore the length of employment follows the duration of this season. There is plenty of meaningful work to do while you are working here but when it ends it ends. I wish that maybe besides kind of just being thrown into completing all the necessary tasks for auditing IT systems that there was some work relating to the policy development of all the IT access controls for an all encompassing experience that gives you a better idea of everything else that goes into IT Audit.
Advice
Pay attention to every little detail of information you come across and make sure to be an effective at communication with your supervisor and the external auditors.

Supervisor
April 2018 • Salem, NH
What I liked
I loved the opportunity to be able to help those I supervised learn, improve, and grow as people. I loved being placed in a high pressure situation, in which I was help to high standards and held responsible for my own failures. I liked dedicating myself to something and doing whatever it took to succeed.
What I wish was different
At times I wish the process for removing members from our team could have been smoother. Other times I wish I had more control over what was going on operationally for example scheduling wise.
Advice
The one piece I would share is that supervising here can be a great experience and a great way to grow and improve as a leader.

What I liked
Great coworkers
What I wish was different
The company doesn’t throw a Christmas party, employees are required to do it. The benefits are expensive and cover hardly anything. It’s not a company that works for their employees.
Advice
Sodexo is a great part time job for college students but I don’t recommend it as a full time venture. I’m working here as an in to the hospital setting. You get to know lots of higher ups in the hospital and make lots of connections!

Barista
August 2017 • Wayne, PA
What I liked
I liked experimenting with different drinks and food items. It wasn't too busy, so I was able to create a lot of different things, which I can't do during the semester.
What I wish was different
I wish that there were more people on campus, especially student workers. Living at the university over the summer got to be pretty lonely.
Advice
Make sure to bring a book to your shift if you are working over the summer. Sometimes, you'll have rushes, so you won't be reading much; however, there were plenty of days that I read. Over last summer, I read 9 books.
