Title:                    Fish Hatchery Technician
Location:           Sitka, Alaska & Kake, Alaska
Dates:                 April 1st to early-November 2025
Closing Date:  Until filled.
Wage:                  $16.53-20.20 increasing to $16.89-20.64 on July 1.

Duties & Responsibilities: 
Assist full-time hatchery staff with routine fish culture and husbandry duties, including but not limited to feeding and rearing of juvenile salmon fry and smolts, egg-takes and spawning adult salmon, incubation of fertilized eggs, net brushing/washing/mending, assist with accurate and legible data collection, and general site/facility maintenance such as pressure washing and groundskeeping. 

Willingness to work and live at remote satellite fish rearing projects will also be required. Communal housing in a “bunkhouse” setting is provided at no cost, as well as transportation between Sitka and the remote rearing site, if necessary. Successful candidates will provide their own rain gear, boots, and transportation to Alaska at the beginning and end of the hiring period. 

Additional Information: 
Northern Southeast Regional Aquaculture Association (NSRAA) is a private non-profit regional aquaculture association operating four ocean-ranching hatcheries in Southeast Alaska, raising chum, chinook and coho salmon. NSRAA provides increased fishing opportunities for the common property commercial salmon fisheries of Northern Southeast Alaska.

Qualifications: 
Education and/or experience in aquaculture, fisheries biology, wildlife management, or animal husbandry is preferred. A positive attitude and sound physical fitness is necessary due to the physical nature of hatchery work (i.e., ability to carry 50 lbs for distances of up to 100 yards). Candidates must be able to live at a remote facility with modern conveniences and interact positively with co-workers. Must have valid drivers license.
